Discover Le Variétés

Le Variétés in the heart of Ixelles, located at Pl. Sainte-Croix 4, 1050, is a local gem that blends a laid-back atmosphere with exceptional food. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with an inviting vibe, making it the perfect place for a casual meal with friends or a quiet dinner after a long day.

The menu at Le Variétés is one that surprises and delights with every visit. Offering a variety of dishes that range from classic Belgian comfort food to a more refined selection of European-inspired meals, it’s clear that their chefs take great pride in curating each offering. The menu is updated seasonally, with fresh, local ingredients playing a starring role. A standout is their moules-frites, a Belgian staple, which is done to perfection, with plump mussels served alongside crispy, golden fries that are both crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It’s a dish that embodies the essence of Belgian cuisine.

But Le Variétés isn’t just about great food-it’s about the experience. The staff is attentive without being overbearing, creating an environment where you feel welcome but also respected. They have a genuine passion for food and an ability to recommend the perfect wine pairings for whatever dish you choose. The wine list is extensive, with a thoughtful selection of both local Belgian wines and international favorites. Whether you’re a connoisseur or just looking for a great glass to complement your meal, they’ve got you covered.

What sets Le Variétés apart is its atmosphere. Unlike many other restaurants in the area that can feel either too stuffy or too casual, this spot strikes the perfect balance. The space is bright and airy, yet cozy enough to give it a sense of intimacy. The eclectic decor adds a touch of character without overwhelming the space, making it an ideal place for any occasion, whether it’s a dinner date, a night out with friends, or a business dinner.

Real customer reviews consistently highlight the quality of the dishes, with many returning just for the food. The service is another aspect that keeps patrons coming back-friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready with a suggestion or answer to any questions. Le Variétés has made a name for itself in Ixelles not only because of the delicious dishes they serve but because of the personal touch they offer. It’s clear that they care about their patrons’ experience, making it much more than just another meal out.

Locals often rave about the daily specials, which feature dishes based on the freshest ingredients available. One recent special was a beautifully prepared beef tenderloin, perfectly cooked to the customer’s preference, served with a creamy mushroom sauce that complemented the meat beautifully. If you’re lucky enough to visit on a day when the special is on the menu, it’s a must-try.

The location of Le Variétés also plays a significant role in its appeal. Ixelles is known for its vibrant and diverse culture, and this restaurant fits seamlessly into the neighborhood. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s easy to see why so many people make it a regular stop. The neighborhood has a welcoming charm, and after your meal, it’s worth taking a stroll around to explore its shops and cafes.

From the well-curated menu to the attentive service and inviting atmosphere, Le Variétés offers a dining experience that is both memorable and comfortable. It’s not just about eating out-it’s about enjoying the moment and appreciating the details that go into creating a great meal. Whether you're stopping by for a quick lunch or settling in for a leisurely dinner, you're sure to leave satisfied.

For those looking to visit, it’s important to note that reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, as this beloved spot can fill up quickly. If you’re planning on stopping by, you might want to plan ahead to ensure you don’t miss out on one of the best dining experiences in Ixelles.

  • Visited on 10 October 2025. The ambience is light and lively, and the décor has an Art Deco feel. The salmon tartare and white sausage with mashed potatoes and applesauce were exquisite. I'd definitely return.

  • Very friendly, professional and efficient service (a rarity in Brussels nowadays!), delicious reinvented and classic dishes, and a great setting in the heart of buzzing Flagey quarter. What’s not to like? Perfect for a Sunday roast lunch or dinner, which was what we did.

  • I enjoyed it a lot. Unpretentious, great food served in an ocean liner like setting. If you are in the area it’s well worth a visit. We went for lunch and there were many nice families having a nice time.

  • We loved the poulet rôti, especially with the morilles sauce, we will definitely go back

  • Chicken with creamy morels mushroom sauce is a must-have. I would highly recommend going for half portion (instead of quarter). One of the best rotisserie chicken I've tried. The manager also makes a mean whiskey sour. Aperol spritz was okay (would have preferred less aperol more fizz personally). Creme brulee was good too but the tarte tatins base was burnt. Waitress was attentive but she didn't explain the specialis of the day to us. Exceptional experience overall. I would definitely return for the chicken whenever I am back in Brussels.

  • I had been here years ago, but now came with a party of 20 foreign colleagues visiting Brussels. This restaurant is ideal when you want to give your guests a flavor of Belgian food. I had the croquettes de crevettes and vol au vent. Both were excellent. Both food and wines are very affordable.

  • The food was very good; we especially liked the calamari tagliatelle, the cauliflower dish, the escargot, and the chocolate fondant (wonderful). However, our experience with the service fell short of the warm welcome we have received elsewhere in Belgium. Our server barely acknowledged our comments, never smiled, and generally gave the impression that he was annoyed to have to serve us. It almost seemed to be because we chose not to speak in French (we both are perfectly capable with the language, though that shouldn’t matter). It was off-putting after having received such friendly service in other establishments.

  • Have been coming to Le Variétés for many years now, and it always feels very special. The food is absolutely delicious, and the presentation is consistently elegant. The menu is rooted in classical tradition but is always inventive. A special thank you to all the staff, who are very attentive and make you feel truly cared for. Watching the kitchen team prepare such beautiful dishes is always a pleasure. It's easily one of the best dining experiences in Brussels.
